I have a friend who owns the 88, which looks the same as the 89 but without the red clamps.
The main problem with his is there wasn't a lot of places to tie the bikes down. The red clamps should solve that though. My dad also has a rack similar to that but it was fitted to a citroen Xantia estate. It should be fine as long as you check: The crank arm on the bike closest to the car is separated from the car by the cycle rack pole. Just make sure there isn't any danger of it hitting the back of the car. (It happened to by dads car, and took a chunk out of the number plate surround). Put a bungee chord around the front wheel of the bike and the cycle rack pole to stop them from turning and hitting the car. Other than that its a good rack design, really easy to fit and the bikes always come off undamaged. It might be worth investing in some pipe insulation to go round parts of the bike to protect against scratches. |
