Default Ignition Curves (Maps)

After my recent mistake with the ignition control unit on my 940 I was wondering if there is any info that says what the standard settings are on the various standard units.

My car felt a lot faster with the non turbo controller on it and was almost ok pinking wise on super plus. I have read somewhere that they can retard the timing a maximum of 6 or 9 degrees to allow for bad petrol so my car would need at least this plus a bit to make it safe but perhaps not as much as the standard Turbo controller.

I know that there are chips to use but they cost money. It's much more fun trying to sort something out yourself, well it's supposed to be.

Has anyone ever seen an info ?

speak to fred !!

the maps are fairly linear since each ecu learns the engine characteristics - th eignition ecu is constantly listening for knock and retarding/advancing , so the ecu is basically a target value for it to achieve during open loop/closed loop control .

the 2 litre and 2.3 ignition maps are different - the difference between 2.3 models is less so .

Think the knock sensor must have been deafened !

I would imagine there is an area above and below the basic curve that allows for knock sensor to do it's bit.
I have messed about with distributors in the past on my Triumph and all the different advance curves were shown in the workshop manual. If one didn't work you could look to see if the others were more suitable and get some sort of improvement.

I will have a search around on Turbobricks and if I can't find anything might give Fred a shout. I'm just interested in how it all works at the moment.

Been reading this thread for the last hour. http://www.turbobricks.com/forums/sh...t=ignition+940
Doesn't really answer my question but it's very interesting. Would be a good mod if you needed to swap between super plus and normal unleaded.
