Default Cam belt **** up

This has been a very upsetting exsperiance so far and I have not got much sleep on the last two nights.
I am determined to get it sorted and compensated if at all possible, though I think it could be a battle.
A garage that could take my money and return a previously perfect running car in such poor condition cant have many scrupples.

Thank you all again I will keep you informed.

first make yourself aware of consumer law /speak to citizens advice, your well protected, second thing do NOT touch the car, third get it back to them and give them the opportunity to rectify the damage, if they refuse explain there in breach of contract and you intend to pursue the matter through the courts, once realise you know the law and you intend to pursue the matter they will in if they have any sense relent, if they dont take the matter to court, its a simple system and citizens advice will guide you through it ,ive done it on two occasions and won, best of luck

Struggling to remember where the key is Craig - the only key I can recall is on the crank pulley. There are no keys on the cam, as you say the pulleys can be replaced in any position, so it is a good idea to mark everything possible so as to get everything back the way it was. I can see how you could replace the belt a tooth out - but if valve/piston interference to result it would be obvious on turning over the engine by hand.
It is also difficult to work out what was done to the cambelt cover that required it to be replaced...

Firstly you need to get to the bottom of what they have messed up on, you will need a report from another independent garage. Then you will need to approach them re reimbursement for whatever you feel is necessary, even if it's a replacement car or engine rebuild, whatever. Make sure you put everything in writing, Recorded Delivery. If they fail to compensate you then you need to involve Trading Standards and then you have nothing much to lose by taking them to Small Claims Court. People are not aware that Small Claims deal with many motoring issues, many people are not aware for instance that when they buy a car from a private seller and the seller gives them a receipt saying 'Sold as seen, tried and tested' and they get the car home and its rubbish that they have redress in the Small Claims, that the seller's receipt is not worth the paper it's written on. My mum's friend recently bought a dud car with such a receipt from the seller and got all her money and expenses back in the Small Claims, every single penny. GOOD LUCK, Small Claims is an easy, straightforward process......

Tricksum, if when you know for sure what the garage have done to your car and have an independent garage report, and if after you have approached the original garage and asked for them to put your car right or compensate you, and if they say no, and if you then put it in writing to them that you are taking the matter to the small claims court, they may well cough up then. If they don't and you want any help with drafting of documents, using the small claims, etc, pm me for my private email and I will help you..... So sorry to hear what's happened
