Default Noisey Tappets?

i have already flushed the engine and changed the oil and oil filter. am using 10w-40 but now thinking that may be too thick as when i start the car up when cold i can hear a feint sort of ticking untill it warms up. its a very feint noise.. cant hear it unless im going slow and have windows up and radio off. over about 30-40mph i cant hear it over the road noise.

any ideas?

I used, until two oil changes ago 5w 40 fully synthetic oil....I changed to semi 10w 40 thinking i was encouraging an oil leak and the bloody car can be a pig to start some mornings...
Next oil change im back to 5w fully....
Cheers
Jod

mine runs and starts fine on 10w but i was really after 5w but the motorfactors didnt have 5 and i thought 10 would do. should have gone somewhere else and got 5w. suppose if it really annoys me i can flush the engine again and change over to 5w.

Just a thought...do you have the right oil filter on as it needs to be the one with the valve to hold the oil pressure. I had a cheap one once and you could hear a tapping until you gave it a blip on the accelerator and it cleared....lack of oil to the top of the engine I suspect... As I say just a thought.

no blips or anything clear it.. only once the engine warms.

im tempted to lift the rocker cover and see if the little holes in the oil spray bars over the cams are bunged up.
