I do recall when doing the rear brakes on my 740 I thought I had a new set of genuine pads (but they were 240 ones) - which did fit but had a slightly different profile along the top edge, and it was impossible to fit the clips.
Halfords and co. all listed the pads as the same for the years in question, but genuine Volvo ones were definitely not the same, although they would fit in the caliper and the retaining pins could be inserted. Could a set of 740 ones have been fitted I wonder? |

It may be the Girling vs ATE thing, I thought it was year to year when they changed for a particular market, but it maybe not. The type of brakes is coded in the model reference number somewhere, but I'm not sure exactly where.
You need to check what type of calipers you have (the retaining pins will show) and then make sure you have the correct pads, then get some clips to fit. It doesn't help that ATE make pads to fit Girling brakes, and vice versa! Last edited by Glen Morangie; Feb 26th, 2008 at 18:24. |

Girling brakes have a parallel pin held by an R clip and spring clip as well
ATE have a pin with a thinn end and sprung lump which locks it in and there is the wide retainer Girling pads are a few mm longer than the ATE ones Mike
