Default Horn Issue

After reading quite a few of the previously posted threads I have still decided to bore you with my horn problem...
Several weeks ago both horns stopped working there is power at the horn connectors...a test light bulb illuminates upon pressing the steering wheel...the horns do work...Seems to me that I am not getting enough power down to them, therefore could anyone suggest the cause and a possible solution

Cheers Paul

Hi
Had the same problem this past weekend while preparing for MOT, found it was a badly corroded connection although working with one horn disconnected would not work when the second horn was connected. Cleaned all connections and coated with vasiline works ok now.

Sounds like the earth contact needs cleaning up!

The horns have a permanent 12v supply. For them to work, it needs the earth, which is switched by the internals of the steering wheel.

I've had the same problem in the past, with the 4 corners of the 'switch' requiring cleaning.

Also horns need a good connection to the switched earth, and clean contacts on the internal make-and-break (in the old days it was safe to call it a vibrator).

If you can get a good contact onto the earth side of the horn, flip it down to earth and see if the horn blows OK then. If it does, it's teh path to the horn button and throught he horn button that is the problem. If not it is either the internal make-and-break or the positive feed.
