V70 AWD Tailgate light/Tyre wear
GLatz My V70 tailgate open light on the dash board has come on. I did manage to reset it with the master key but it has come on again. The local main agent has recomeded a new lock as he said the micro switch in the lock has failed. Has anyone experienced this and if so how was it rectified. My final question is i have read in these forum pages the importance of even tyre wear with regards to these V70 AWD's. My tyres are wearing evenly but should i alternate them every 5,000 miles? |

if you remove the lock assy you can strip the lock and will be able to clean and lubricate the microswitch (use a decent contact cleaner) this will hopefully solve the problem as they tend to stick in the "open" position

RE: V70 AWD Tailgate light/Tyre wear
I know some owners swap their wheels round regularly. So far I haven't had to as my tyres have always worn pretty evenly. I did have to replace all four last year because of a puncture, but just recently my dealer said I could change just the front ones (which had worn thanks to lousy tracking) without needing to change the rears. If they continue to wear as they have in the past then I reckon that next time I'll probably have to do all four again, perhaps with a front/rear swap in the interim.

RE: V70 AWD Tailgate light/Tyre wear
I have the same on my car with thte tailgate lock mechanism, the dealer also suggested a new lock. Although someone told me from this forum that by spraying WD40 into the lock may achieve a temporary solution. From memory I think the dealer quoted about £100 plus fitting for the part.
Definately rotate/swap the tyres every 5k, remember that although you have a AWD more power goes through the front wheels than the rears, after 5k on my Goodyears, the fronts were slightly lower tread than the rears. Maybe it's the hard cornering }( AWD loves it! Another advantage IMO to regularly rotating the wheels is that it lessens the chance of the alloy wheel becoming stuck to the wheel hub. As some people here have had problems when they have had to change a wheel for a puncture or repairs and they were unable to remove the wheel. If you didn't already know, make sure that if you do rotate the wheels, use a torque wrench to tighten the nuts back up again to 110NM otherwise you make well warp the brake disks.

RE: V70 AWD Tailgate light/Tyre wear
I also had a problem with the tailgate lock last summer, I purchased a new lock - I think it was around £60ish. On removal of the old lock and inspecting it out of the car, a load of insect type crud including a wasp fell out. I sprayed lithium grease into the mechanism and worked it a few times, replaced it and it has been fine since. The dealer gave me a full refund on the lock as the whole process took less than 30 minutes from the purchase of the lock to its return.
I think a spider had been nesting in it...... Cheers Col. |
