HEADLAMPS SHAKING!!!
i've noticed tonight while driving home that my headlights shake when i hit a bump or pothole in the road.
the way i can tell this is that the reflection on the road and on the cars shimmers and shakes and this seems to be happen even when driving on a slightly bumpy surface but is much, much worse when hitting a big bump or pothole. when i got home i checked that the bulbs were secure and that the headlamps themselves were bolted down properly and everything looked tight and i couldn't move the lamps with my hands. the suspension of my s70r is pretty harsh upfront but even still it shouldn't shake that much should they?? any ideas?? cheers |

RE: HEADLAMPS SHAKING!!!
nice try howard ;)
but seriously its not the fault of the lamps or the bulbs because it use to happen with the old ones too but now that the xenons are so much brighter its easier to pickup. i did have a look at the way the lamps are bolted to the front of the car this afternoon and noticed that instead of a metal slam panel it made of plastic and there is alot of give in it, u can actually move it by hand which also makes the rad move!! i checked all the bolts that hold the slam panel in place but none where loose but i think whats meant to happen is that the bonnet shuts and holds the slam panel tight in place but its not doing this because the 2 little rubber pads that are attached to the front underside of the bonnet are worn, u can actually see where they have been moving around and rubbing on the slamp panel instead of holding it tight. i'm going to replace these and see what happens but if anyones got any other ideas please mention them. cheers |

RE: HEADLAMPS SHAKING!!!
Could it be the bulb shaking in its holder? Try wiggling the bulb. I replaced the wires on one of mine when I went HID because I had that problem.
Has one of the ball and socket adjustment rods inside the light become detached? The 850 lights are very easy to take apart and check, don't know about the S70 though. |

RE: HEADLAMPS SHAKING!!!
its 100% not the bulb and i don't think its the adjustment rods because the headlamps are new.
the problem happened with my old headlamps aswell thats why i'm starting to think that its the slam panel moving around, i've bought the pads and am going to try the lights tonight, wish me luck!! would the shaking damage the hid bulb in anyway?? cheers |

RE: HEADLAMPS SHAKING!!!
ok this is really beginning to get on my #### now!!!
the new pads aren't helping one bit and there is absolutely nothing wrong with the bulbs or the headlamps themselves. the only thing it could be is the front slam panel, its very loose and shakey. i can move it by hand and this in turn makes the lights, rad and everything else bolted to it move!!! i thought i had gone round and tightened all the mounting bolts for it up but i've probably missed a few. i was told by the previous owner that the car did have a light front incident which meant the front bumper having to be removed and resprayed, i'm thinking that the accident could have broken the slam panel somewhere or bent it out of shape or maybe even the people that did the repairs didn't put everything back on properly. does anyone have any useful info on how to get a complete look at the slam panel or where all the moutings for it are??? hopefully without having to dismantle the entire front of the car. cheers paul btw the slam panel is believe it or not made out plastic!!! is it possible to fit a metal one from another s70 model??? |

RE: HEADLAMPS SHAKING!!!
Hi sorry to hijack the thread but can I ask where you got your xenons bulbs from? And are that better than normal bulbs.
Thanks Allan. |
