Going back a few years I used to make up hoses etc. out of stock straight hose and bends, and Yorkshire solder ring plumbing pipe fittings. The solder ring made a very convenient rib to clamp the hoses to, and the various size elbows and tees available at the local plumbers' merchants overcame most problems.
Somebody once wondered where I got a neatly formed aluminium heater hose from to replace a rusty old steel pipe.... I didn't have the heart to tell them that it started out in life as bicycle handlebars....
