"Lambda Sond" light on instrument panel
Hi, can anyone please help? If you can, it may just prevent cold-blooded murder taking place!!! My husband has a 740 GLT (G reg) and, frequently, the engine will "dip" in power, the Lambda Sond light illuminates on the dash and the engine cuts out. This has happended in the most inconvenient of places (M4, A4, unlit country roads) and is getting to be a nuisance. Because he "loves" his Volvo so much, he maintains it is a "teething" problem (with a car built in 1989, I don't think so) and, god forbid I should ring the RAC!!! The engine does, however, start up again within 5 minutes or so and we head on our merry way with the "Lambda Sond" light still merrily illuminated. Loosening the petrol cap seemed to work for a while, as did removing the air filter. Answers on a postcard please. This just may prevent, at the very least, imminent divorce proceedings! Thanx, Kim.

The lambda light indicates that a fault has been detected by the ECU. First step is to find out the fault codes. Info on doing that can be found here: http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/EngineOBDCodes.html

Codes
Read the codes (method in FAQ)
Fix whatever the codes say to fix. Clear Codes (method in FAQ) But I'm not sure if this applies only to Jetronic equipped cars and I think on a G plate you might be a Motronic Probably clean the usual stuff on the intake side. |

Hi,
This can depend on the state of service of the car. However, thinks to look at would be sparks (condition), the idle control valves, throttle body, Crank Case Vent system and then see how the car runs.. Searching here for any of the above terms should bring up posts with information for your other half.. Welcome to the forums and do make sure that old Volvo is well looked after.. Des. . .
