Fan recall
Well last week I took the car back to Caffyns the main dealers in Brighton, to have the tramsmission road tested from cold. The garage I bought the car from won't entertain coughing up towards a clutch until he has a diagnosis from the main dealers. Any how, they did this and said it was just the clutch, £876 to replace, although how they can say the gearbox is ok with a test drive of less than 1 mile I don't know!
The battle for the transmission goes on. However I was impressed when I told the receptionist, Kirsty, that the car was erratic on tickover and the engine hunts sometimes. She said while it is there they would clean the ETM and do the software upgrade, oh and we will also look at the cooling fan recall (news to me), but I might have to pay 1/2 hour for the gearbox diagnosis. Picked the car up, cost £6 for a hose clip and cleaning fluid, drives like a different motor! I bought a top engine mount with the money I saved! And when I fitted the mount, 15 mins, I saw a complete new radiator cooling fan had been fitted, all for free! Sometimes it pays to go to the main dealers, the clutch quote from my local independent was £50 more! Oh and if you recall, when the main dealer did my cam belt, the emmission warning light came on that afternoon, they had it back twice to fix it, when I did the top mount, I saw that a new VVT solenoid had been fitted, so I guess it must have been that. Sorry for cramming so much in, I'll keep you posted on the transmission problem, I still think there is a box issue in there as well, but I'm going for the Caffyns clutch in the next 2 weeks, if the dealer contributes, fine , if not, the courts it is. |

I am pleased your making progress with your new car and the jobs are getting done. All the best.

Thanks Jim
Thank you Jim, I must say I am totally in love with the car now it runs better.
I have to go to Newcastle for work next week, and I'm a bit pee'd to be going by train as the clutch is not sorted yet. I have said to the selling garage, that if they contribute £500 towards the clutch (and other items I have already fixed on the car) I will resign all future warrentee rights. I think that sounds very fair? Am I wrong? I do not expect them to pay for all of the clutch, but they are looking at non Volvo garages to do it, and I'm non having it. I bought a Volvo and I want a Volvo clutch (with the self adjusting mechanism) not a patent part. I just want it fixed, nearly 3 months on! |
