Yes Richard I was going to take it down to CHS in Bilston tomorrow but i've had a spot of luck.
I've just paid £45 for a 531 head from a 760 turbo, 92,000 miler.
I'm assured its all there ready to bolt straight on and there were no head or gasket failures before the engine was stripped. Got a 30 day warranty aswell.
Feelin pretty chuffed with my find to be honest.

I was going to post that you can pick up heads from scrapyards for £50, at least if you are willing to remove them yourself. Seems cheaper to do that, get the new head checked and skimmed if needed and away you go.

If you need any machining done, there is always "willenhall engine centre", they are pretty close to you as well, being only over north of Wolves myself, I can assure you of them doing a semi decent job/price too!

The 'new' head arrived today and is gonna need checking/skimming i think.
There are light marks on the head in exactly the same places as on the one pictured above. Also there are a couple of scratches on the face as if its been dragged as its been lifted from the block.
Good job theres plenty of machine shops in the area.

i had a 531 a bit like that one, those are caused cause the block still has water passages in that the head no longer has ports for in these newer versions.

When i put a 531 on the 244 i used to have they don't weld them but then clean them out and fill them with a super hard resin/putty type substance before skimming. i had 1.5mm taken off mine as i was bumping the compression on B21A i was putting it. you need an adjustable cam gear to do this as it throws off cam timing, you can do 3mm but need to source a 1 tooth shorter belt.

this is the head, you can see the repairs even after skimming.
