V40 Gas Discharge Headlamps & Changing Bulbs
I've got a 2004 V40 fitted with gas discharge headlamps. I've recently had a sidelight bulb (the one below the high beam lamp) blow on the offside and went to change it only to find that the associated Ballast/Igniter unit is blocking access.
Does anyone know how to remove this B/I unit after I've made it electrically safe? It looks like the torq screws in each corner secure it to the headlamp unit, am I right? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

Thanks Pyaap.
I sorted it over the weekend. There's a torx screw above and below the igniter unit and one more to the lhs, they're all size T-20 and hold the plastic cage where the unit sits. Observing electrical safety, the unit can be pulled out after unclipping the two cage fasteners at the top. The cage can be pulled away exposing the bulb sockets. Space is very tight and it can be done although it's not the easiest of lamp changes that I've carried out. |
