Default P1800 Removal of speedometer

Hi
Hoping someone can advise me on the following.
I have a 63 P1800 (one of the very first Swedish assembled cars.) I need to remove and replace the speedometer. Can any member of the forum advise on how to carry out this job.
Does the dashboard have to be removed or can I just remove the dashboard top pad? If I can get away with just the pad removal how is it removed as I have heard its fixed in position with adhesive is this true?
Any advice would be appreciated.

There is no need to remove any of the dash. You will need to get under the dash and have a look for the speedo cable and two thumbscrews holding the speedo in place. Unscrew the speedo cable from the back and then undo the two thumb screws. There will be long clamps holding the speedo to the the back of the dash that will slide off when the thumbscrews are removed. The speedo is then removed from the front of the dash. There will be some dash lights to remove also which just pop out from the back of the speedo.
