Tightening torques for wishbones
Following green book I tightened the four nuts on top of upper wishbones (PN 950354) at 16lb.ft (21nm in my wrench). Both wishbones get blocked at that torque. I mean I am not able to move them up and down by hand. Nuts and bolts are new, clamps are the old ones but they were blasted and zinc plated. The trace in the shaft was smeared with copper grease.
As for the lower wishbone I find the instructions in green book confusing. Chapter 6, page 13 says early production nuts tightening torque is 14-18 lb.ft, but mine are late production with bolt, washers and nuts and without clamps.

14-16-18 lb ft fairly close.
The recommended method is to tighten the nuts with the suspension loaded. I.E. with the nuts loose but snug, drop the car, tires on to the floor. Then tighten them to the recommended torque. Not surprised you can’t move the arms by hand, that’s a minuscule force vs the weight of the vehicle. |
