Default Fuel Filter Confusion

Hi all. I'm the happy new owner of a face-lift V50 D5, and I've been getting around to some tlc, including the long overdue fuel filter replacement.
The old one was an absolute pig to get out, but eventually I got it. The new filter is a bosch and seems to be the correct one for the car, however they don't look identical.
Since fitting the new one there's also been a very slow leak coming from between the cap and the housing.

I wondered if the translucent plastic ring on the top of the filter should be removed before fitting, but I can't find any indication online that it should. There's a large lip on the inside of the filter body housing that seems like it would clash with this plastic ring, which is why I thought maybe it needs to be removed.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

I don't think that's the correct filter.

Thanks. Do you know what is correct?

Euros/Autodoc/GSF etc all show the one I've bought, as does the parts catalogue.

Have you still got the old filter to hand? Take the part number off that and search for it online. If the old one fitted fine, just buy the same one again?

Or take the part number off it and cross reference it with your local supplier.

I do still have it, unfortunately I can't find anything from the numbers included:

GFE 5563
23161 503 2312121

Closest I get from this is a completely different filter for a Mazda. I phoned my local Volvo before who only confirmed that the part number I shared before (from the catalogue) was correct and that they don't have any.

Perhaps check that you changed the rubber O ring seal and made sure it was seated correctly ? There should have been one supplied with the new filter element.

Make sure that the cover was not cross threaded when fitting ?

Edit; The white filter looks about right to me, but I do run V70's so it could be slightly different. Images on the internet do seem to tally with the white one you have and your vida part number as shown.

FF5563 when searching (with no spacing and no G) shows a totally different filter to the old (black) one you have. Nothing is shown for GFE 5563.

I would be tempted to remove the filter and re-fit again carefully. You may have cracked the housing when removing ? I know they can be a pig to undo and refit. You would think that the diesel would lubricate everything, but it my experience it just seems to encourage a sticking of the plastic screw threads when removing and fitting. Perhaps try some vaseline or similar on the threads ?

However GFE5563 (no spacing) does show a couple of Borg & Beck items on e-bay !

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sour...4ze8wD03keH7S8

It does say that 31342920 is compatible.

Lots of fun to be had !

^Which also brings up a part number 30681552...

Is that any help?

Not sure if Borg & Beck is a good brand?

Bottom line is that IMHO you likely have the correct replacement filter, carefully refitting as described earlier may cure the issue, unless the housing is (hopefully not !) cracked .

Thank you both for your help & suggestions.

I definitely cross threaded it the first time I fitted the new one, as it came peeing out when I primed the pump. I thought I had it the 2nd time, but maybe not. It currently puts out a tiny dribble after 3 or 4 full pump primes.

I found another ebay job that looks to be the same as the one that came out: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/174087962306

I'm not familiar with Borg & Beck or Blue Print, but I may also try refitting the old filter to see if the leaks stop, and if so maybe I'll need to go for one of these instead.

Either way it sounds like I'll be busy this weekend.
