Feed for auxiliary gauge illumination?
Hi folks,
A simple request (I hope): I need to tap into the existing wiring for instrument cluster illumination, to add a feed for the illumination of a pair of aftermarket gauges. 2007 C30 D5 SE 180bhp auto. Any advice on how to safely do this will be much appreciated. I'm aware that the aux gauge illumination will impose a significant extra load (12V filament bulbs x 2) so I'm concerned that I might cause problems if the existing dash illumination has modern load-balance architecture. Maybe I can pick-up a feed from the existing 'instrument lighting on' feed wire and then use a relay to power the auxiliary gauge lighting to achieve simultaneous illumination with the cluster but without significantly affecting the load-balance? As you can tell, I only know just enough to be dangerous so expert advice along the lines of 'tap this colour of wire here, you need/don't need a relay-controlled power circuit' would be perfect. Over to you! |

Why not just run a fuse tap from the fuse box to power it?
