You'll then have a lively 250bhp V8 that looks good for a tenth of what this guy says he spent on an older engine conversion.

Someone might actually be willing to shell out most of that £6k to buy it after you've had your fun in it too!
I take your point Dave. I think the seller must have included his own time charged at £50/hour to get to £60,000. One of the issues mitigating against the modified 240 is that (on paper at least) it is still a 39 year old 140,000 mile vehicle with no provenance. Not many folk will be keen to shell out £16,000 on that.

You make a good point about a Lexus V8 conversion - and perhaps ending up with a better vehicle. As a project for oneself that might be fun - and bringing it is at 6 grand would be a good challenge, but if one tried to sell it I wonder whether many folk would take a chance on a highly modified car with no provenance for £6,000?

There might also be an issue registering the Rover V8 240 as an historic vehicle when the time comes - if that proved to be a problem then it would become an expensive sheet anchor rather than an interesting assett.

Just the musings of a grumpy many with a beard before taking Bob for his first walk of the day.

… we agree about that one Andrew, I’ve saved it and will keep an eye on the auction. I really do need to get another garage and a half built at ‘Vegas, but I suppose if the price was right for the 164 then… .

I think I posted a piece in the 1800 section about me having more or less committed to buy Delores (1973 P1800ES) in the autumn. I’d have to pay proper money for that - so if the 164 was cheaper by a good margin then we would have to see.

Addendum: I’ve attached a photo of the space I want to fit another garage and a half into - so it looks like it was a double in the first place. Once that is done I can acquire another interesting motor car. I have a timber carport kit arriving next Tuesday for GAM to live under.

Even made me splutter when I saw that one, I suppose its just a dealer 'flying a kite' to test the water, I see it's also on Car & Classic website.

Can see it staying on there for quite a while, or until Moomoo empties his piggybank

Cheers
Steve

PS - Good luck with the car port next week 👍

I think there are some overpriced motor cars (mostly from dealers) that we see on sale for several years - I can’t help thinking the overheads of storing and displaying cars like that must outweigh inflated prices.

The car port should be fairly straightforward, it is the stand-alone type that just needs 6 little concrete pads to anchor the legs. I’ll leave the area underneath gravelled as it is now. My aim is to have this erected in the second week of June.

I had a builder round last week to have a look at extending the garage sideways. That will be a more considered project, but I’d like it done by September.
