Magaged to fix the buttons today, finally.
The copper strip has been designed to be removed by a very thin blade, like a stanley knife blade. On the outer edge ther is a small and I do mean tiny small indent in the shape of the copper strip. If it is prised out with the knife blade it will unclip from its retaining plastic surround. Separating this from the 6.3mm spade connector using needle nose pliers to stop the wire pulling through helps this. On the back of the copper is a minute drop of solder which makes contact with the connector post inset in the plastic frame. This solder had crumbles away to almost nothing, so I added more. cleaned both parts before reassembling the switch and hey presto I have a working hon button again.... |

I'm about to tear into my horn buttons. I noticed that the earth connection to my aftermarket relay from the horn buttons is around 2K Ohms on one button and 1M Ohm on the other. It seems like cleaning up the contacts and maybe adding a new solder blob is the thing to do to fix it.
Do you still have the photos and can you upload them, please? This is a 1991 740, and I've spent a good deal of time updating electrical problems..., door switches, dome light, bulbs and sockets, and the horns were quite vexing. I finally replaced the original disintegrating Bosch horns with a new pair wired directly to the battery and grounded to the frame. They were working fine for the last five months or so, then stopped suddenly last week. So happy I had the safety inspection done last month, but I hate to drive with no horn. Cheers, Randy |
