Weekend job.
Doubt on front crossmember color. I have seen it in pale grey and in black. Guess grey are for older models and black would suit my '66, but I am not sure.

I thought it was a strange doubt but looks like it is not:

Last bits of undercarriage painted along with a local paint shop version of 91 Light Green applied over white anti gravel. Not really exactly matching the body paint (too greenish). But after all is the hidden side of the car.

Bought a 10Ton bench press for pulling out the bushes, but some of them needed a more radical treatment. Next time I will wait to do the paint job.

Buying a stalled project have pros and cons. Among the latter is that you don't know the condition of some mechanical parts because you never tested them before. I have a fair knowledge of my Amazon's diff: it whines and clunks... but it works. But how can I judge the nicely recently brushed and painted 1800s diff?
It is a Dana 27 and once opened I think it is... full of teeth. After reading the service manual I did what I understand is the basic health checking. First, measuring backlash: just below 0,008". Second, measuring ring gear runout: 0,003", again just inside the margins. The last test seems to be more worrying. I checked the contact patches on the crownwheel. Drive side looks ok, but reverse side has the contacts not centered and too near the toe. I must admit this impressive knowledge has been acquired in a 5 hour session at YouTube University. The tricky question is: should I dare to get into an unknown terrain or I better stay on the safe side and assume a 48 years old diff must sound like a 48 years old diff?

Surprisingly easy task. Fitting PU bushes into torque rods and support arms while the axle was outside the car took me 2 hours. After that I was really scared of not being able of screwing the rods and arms to the body. I offered the whole thing to the body and everything slotted in with just some gentle blows of the rubber mallet. Just 1 hour.
The pair of skateboard like couple of wood platforms were really helpful. As for springs and shocks, the skateboards again combined with the scissor tilting elevator prevented me from using a compression tool. Well, the shocks needed a 25 kg bag of salt for pools placed in the trunk. I did not find tightening torques for all these nuts and bolts. Any idea?
