As to the noise, I’ve never owned a BMW but yes the 5 cylinders can sound a little agricultural at times. I wouldn’t be worrying yourself unnecessarily they are good strong engines. Try and get your faults sorted out and enjoy it. I would strongly recommend finding a Volvo specialist to look after it. Normal garages just don’t know how to deal with these cars or that’s generally the rule and certainly my experience.

That's totally wrong and it should have it's oil changed it is mentioned in the service schedule . what they mean is they don't want to do it as on some other makes changing the oil causes problems in the gearbox. but not on Volvos.

It has reset to the correct level during an 90 mile round trip. It’s pretty much where it should be 3/4th of the range between min/max. |

As Graham said above, you need to find a Volvo specialist to look after your car. Back street/ordinary garages aren't equipped to work on these cars. If you frequent garages like those, you'll have nothing but headaches. Find someone that knows about these Volvo's and stick with them. The experience they have will pay for itself.

I’ve just posted a video on with car at idle, for anyone who owns a vehicle with a D5 215hp take this is how they sound? https://youtu.be/QwKikC-TK94 I recorded the following at 5am in the morning, so it was fairly cold, hence why I was light on the peddle. https://youtu.be/sNm31-gkXdI Last edited by Waqar92; Apr 28th, 2024 at 21:39. |

Sounds normal to me. Its how these engines sound. D5's aren't the quietest or most refined, but they're a very strong engines.
Just one thing I noticed. The coolant is the wrong colour. It should be green, not red. Maybe sometime in the future, flush the old coolant out and replace it with genuine coolant from Volvo. Also the power steering fluid is a tad low. Buy some CHF 11S fluid to top it up. That's also green.

Agree with Kev, the engine sounds normal for a D5 in those videos. Also agree on needing a coolant change.
I’ll add a link to a thread on my previous V70 I did which shows a coolant change, power steering fluid replacement, gearbox oil changes etc. for info as it might help with basic maintenance tasks. That was a euro 4 D5 but the tasks are similar on the euro 5. https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=302878

https://www.arnoldclarkautoparts.com...-4ltr-31439721 Power steering just a tad below max, so I should be ok for now unless there is an issue somewhere? I’ll monitor the level for now, hoping it doesn’t change. |
