2003 S40 cam timing belt kit
I need some quick(ish) help from the technically knowledgeable. The cam timing belt on my 2003 S40 is to be changed (1.6 L 14 engine, engine type: B4164S2, engine number: B4163358648) but my understanding is that one has to get a kit that comprises not only the cam timing belt but a few other things too… a pulley and something else I’ve forgotten. Our local Volvo is not interested in cars as old as this, so I need to source the parts myself… and I know nothing.
It’s been suggested that all the parts needed come as one kit, so I’m assuming that whole kit-of-stuff will have one single part number. Can someone confirm this, and – better still – provide me with the part number so that I can identify the kit accurately on the Internet? Many thanks! |

The Volvo timing belt kit consists of the belt, tensioner and idler pulley. It doesn't include the water pump as these very rarely need changing and Volvo don't regard this as a service item. When checking the water pump for leaks or roughness and deciding it does need changing only fit a Genuine Volvo pump as after market are guaranteed to leak in the not too distant future.
Edit: Your local dealer is pathetic if they can't be ar*ed to order the kit for you - it isn't rocket science. Try FRF at Swansea - Volvo main dealers - Very helpful and post parts and also offer a discount to forum members.

Is the 'tensioner and idle pulley' all one thing? One pulley doing two jobs? Or two separate items?

Sorry for not being clear. The tensioner and idler pulley are two seperate items.
