Yes SPA platform was late 2015. There are a very small number of 65 reg cars on the road (so Sept 15 to Mar 16). The majority of early cars were on 16 plates (so post Mar 16).

Also the new engine went into the other non-SPA cars at virtually the same time, maybe a tiny bit earlier. We had a 16 reg V40 on the fleet at work with the new SPA engine and our 66 plate V60 has the new engine also.

In fact when my XC90 SPA engine went bang in a very expensive way the first thing I did was buy a warranty for the V60 - as it has the same engine....

Is there a way in telling whether a car has a SPA/VEA engine by lifting the bonnet, like any tell-tale signs? For example, on the older P3 diesel models (2007 to around 2009), you could tell that a car had a euro 4 D5 engine because it had a silver engine cover and the engine layout was different to the earlier euro 3.

May I ask what happened your VEA XC90?

I guess just count the cylinders. Or check the V5. New engine is 1969cc.
