Bumper Respray
I bought my V40 a few years back and the lacquer on the front bumper was wearing thin, since then it's started peeling off. I've lived with that for a couple of years but someone has now scraped the corner of it in a car park so I need to get it resprayed. Presumably it had previously been repaired on the cheap.
I'm guessing the dent/scrape repair places won't respray a whole bumper? THere's no damage as far as I can tell, it's just the paint/lacquer. Has anyone had a front bumper resprayed and knows what it should cost? I'm in north-east Scotland so not many places to choose from up here! Last edited by waloob; Jan 30th, 2024 at 18:31. |

My paint man - a one man outfit in grotty industrial premises who produces work of the highest calibre - charged me £150 when I had the C70 bumper redone recently. I always remove all the trim and re-assemble, paying him to do the paintwork.

I would still try a few places that do the sort of minor call out repairs:~
Wings & wheels are no problem for a company used by my son- a bumper isn't that different... worth asking.. it's all business. Small spray shops may take a little finding but again they do exist- try asking at you local car paint suppler, they have their trade and the shop we use also have the business cards shown to promote the company. Hope it helps. Bob. |

I taught myself how to paint with the help of you tube, I got a decent 50 litre compressor some cheapo spray guns to do the job, if you have a steady hand and a good eye for the actual prep work its not too difficult to do. My 1st proper go at it was on my cousins car, he's a fussy bugger when it comes to his cars but was really pleased with the result I got with a £12 spray gun.If you have the time and somewhere dry and warmish to work why not have a crack at it yourself?

If you want to go the cheap route, buy a pre-used full bumper in the same colour.
The next step would be a mobile 'spot' repair at say £100 ish. The second would be a body shop, I pay £140 for a bumper painting (either front or back). It depends on the quality of the repair you want, at £140 it will look pretty good, but not concours, if you want absolutely flawless, expect to pay £350 upwards. |

liquid
I recall when spraying some rear parking sensors, volvo did a liquid that you used on the plastic to help the paint stick better.. no doubt a pro painter may know what this is or if its needed, but worth checking if you want the paint to adhere well...

Thanks all - looks like around £150 for a basic repair or £300+ for a proper job.
I'll do some asking around locally, there's not a lot to choose from here so it won't take long! |
