Default Update to OP

Hello all. This is an UPDATE to my original post of November, 2017.

Yes, it's taken this long and three separate trips to my Volvo dealer here in the Barcelona/Tarragona area of Spain.

After two software "resets" and one "update" (their words, not mine) and then an additional visit for the mechanic to fiddle with the light control stalk, last week Volvo finally decided they couldn't cure the problem with software and are now going to replace the entire stalk...this is what I have been asking from the beginning. So the car gets repaired today.

Anyway, I will post back here if the hardware replacement doesn't solve the problem, but just wanted to post for the benefit of anyone else experiencing this issue.

Vehicle: 2017 XC90 Momentum; D5 AWD; LED headlight system; etc.
Km: 28,000

Thanks for the update. It is always really useful when someone updates on the outcome of a particular issue.

My 7-nearly-8-year-old S90 just started showing intermittent but frequent "Turn indicator System malfunction" error msgs on right-turn only (not left). So far no associated headlamp flasher weirdnesses. Second or third attempts, or later attempts, usually work and the right indicator flashes at the usual rate - until the next episode.
Only when one doesn't have the capability to signal intention, it does one appreciate the extremely hazardous nature of a right turn or overtaking manoeuvre!! so it clearly needs attention.
The dealer has at this stage just talked about software updates - I am completely up to date as far as I can tell - I update Maps frequently, Apps when any updates occur. No New Apps for ages (if ever, in 7y). I have never knowingly initiated or obtained a System update though always visit the opportunity when tethering the phone to Download Centre.
Not aware that the indicators even had sensors?? though these have been mentioned in this thread. Did wonder whether a good wash of the external light clusters would help (in this weather they get filthy rapidly) but cannot see the logic of such a move.
Cannot stand even the thought of a hardware replacement (stalk etc) on such an ancient motor. I imagine the cost is hair-raising .. .. ??
The car is going in on Tuesday next. I'll keep you posted.

Only Volvo can update your cars software. It is done FOC when you have a service done at a main agent. The maps and apps updates are separate thing altogether and can be done by you.
Hope this helps to understand what is going on.
You could try disconnecting the battery for half an hour and see if this initiates a reset that may cure your issue.
