Earlier this month I had a couple of days where the car wasn't connecting (the symbol in the top left of the screen had an 'X' next to it). No Spotify, Google Maps very slow. A reboot and switching the Car SIM off and on didn't fix it. It seemed to fix itself after a couple of days. Yesterday, same thing, this time it was only out for a day.
I'm in North London where 4G on my Vodafone iPhone is fine so it shouldn't be a mobile signal issue. The Volvo/Vodafone connection just seems to be a bit flaky. Remote start works fine. This is a new XC60 recharge. |

The laptop would need to have a sim to enable a connection through to the Vodafone servers. At the point you are trying to validate the onboard sim it's not connected to vodafone.

This is from Volvo...
It can take up to 5 minutes for original initialisation to take place and the Internet Globe (see picture) to appear on the top left of the Sensus screen. You are able to use the vehicle while this initialisation is carried out in the background of the vehicle systems. If the Globe does not appear, you may need to force it to look for a connection. To do this, connect the vehicle to a stable internet source (eg. phone with hotspot turned on or wifi), wait for the globe to appear, then go back into Settings → Communication → Car Modem Internet and re-tick the box. The globe should then appear, using the P-SIM connection instead. Note the point on using a phone with its hotspot turned on (tethering). ie You are using the phones sim to get a connection.

The car sim is passing minimal data according to the meter in the car and is connecting to the Vodafone servers without an external network.
It’s just the severs will not let the connection through to the wider internet until it is registered. Vodafone support has also told me I must only be connected to the car hotspot and no other networks. |

Have you got the 'Globe' icon?

I have finally got it to work!
It would appear it’s an issue with Apple devices - even a MacBook running windows. As I had tried 2 different iPhones and a MacBook Pro with both macOS and windows, different browsers on all devices and with all security and privacy features off, all of which failed. Today I tried a Samsung phone (android) and it worked first time! |
