Send destination to car from app
Is this not possible with AAOS cars?

No, no send destination to car functionality in the app for AAOS cars (yet).

There's no need. Just go on google maps and search for somewhere on your phone/pc or whatever. Assuming the car is connected to your google account the searches just show up in the drop down in the car. Select and go.

Exactly, it’s completely different - your car and your phone/tablet are one. Whatever you search for on the sofa appears in the car. Sometimes that can be a little irritating when apparently random destinations appear in the car and you realise that they’re from long forgotten Google searches.

Yes it is possible, you can send to car from maps on phone/tablet to an AAOS car, my missus can do it, she gets Volvo xc60 as an option to send planned trip data in google maps. it gives you a notification in the car and everything that you have sent a trip from mobile/tablet.
I don't get the option and have no idea why.... As mentioned though most thing you search come up in the maps app in car anyway but still it is a bit annoying she can do something that I can't, I need to check my permissions, it is no doubt something to do with that. I'm the admin for the Volvo, she is not, that is the only other difference I can think of between us if it is not permissions. example from her s20 phone to our car When we look at options in maps app on phone she gets connected vehicle option whereas mine just says engine type.....it's a mystery.

I found depending on the search history for sharing locations between the mobile app and the car to be spotty at best. Often the locations on the phone would not show on the car's Google Maps.
What is working reliably is to save a location as favourite. Then it always appears in the car, although it might not be on top of the list. That I find irritating plus the additional work to remove a location from favourites later on. @sandys: Can you share the steps in the mobile app to view the first and second screen you posted on your wife's phone? I'm using Google Maps on iPhone and cannot find the "Your vehicle" screen. |

You programme a destination and click directions, then on the route page click the three dots and then options, that brings up the page shown, mine just shows engine type, I'm sure it's just a Google options thing in my account just can't seem to spot the difference between hers and mine, I may uninstall/re install the volvo app and make sure I accept every term and option see if it corrects and then adds a connected car for me on my Google account.

In the end I did nothing to resolve the connected vehicle situation on my phone, lazy like that, but it has appeared anyway, I guess Google decided I was finally worthy so now I too can send planned trips to my Volvo from phone.
Though it seems I can't do it from web, I have to send to phone and then send from phone to my Volvo, missus can do it from tablet but that is probably because an ipad is like a phone and PC is different.

That worked for me
I can now send directions to my Volvo so thank you for those instructions. The only advantage I can see over using the latest search destination shown in the car is that if I've planned a scenic route using Google Maps I can send that rather than just accept the quickest route from Google. I've spent a lot of time planning a route in Google for a road trip in Switzerland this year and I'd like to be able to send that to the car. Next step is to work out how to do that from the desktop.

Yup exactly that sort of use case, seems to work, plan it from desktop, send to phone, then to Volvo.
Of course I'm sure it all falls once you get a diversion as tends to be the case with google.
