Yes changed the rears for the second time at 35k before MOT, they were getting close to the wear limit, but still had some life in them, I changed the front pads for the first time at same time, rather than getting an advisory on my MOT on pad wear close to limit. Fronts still had some life in them as well but for less than £150 for both sets of genuine pads bought online I changed them.
P.S I always use adaptive cruise control whenever I can.

In the old days brake lights were easy. They were on a switch on the pedal. Now there is still a pedal switch but the car might decide to put lights on at other times. I was reading about this the other day. Apparently the regulations state a particular retardation rate as when the lights must illuminate. I think it was minus 1.2 metres per second squared.

I was watching a Polestar the other day following a car in Lane 3. It kept making random and brief flashes of the brake lights. This made me believe they were using ACC and that the car does show the lights.

Which - if it's the case - it's not great at all on our congested multi-lane motorways as it inevitably and very quickly either leads to traffic jams 'with no reason'.

That's an interesting observation. I've followed a few cars lately and wondered why the driver kept dabbing the brakes. There was no obvious reason as far as the road or traffic conditions were concerned - and I wasn't tailgating. The latest car to do it was a BMW 4.4i.

Well yes and no. If others following get spooked by the lights then maybe they will brake sharply, but all the ACC is doing is maintaining the same distance to the car in front - and doing so with more accuracy than any human could achieve. So in fact widespread use of ACC might ease delays and make the motorways more efficient.

Be it as it may, folks usually drive too close to one's rear, and this happens across all motorway lanes either - so with all the above in mind, unecessary braking obviously ocurrs, which convolutes and impacts the momentum and fluency, and at busy times usually results in severe 'unexplained' slowdowns...

It only puts the lights on with a certain level of retardation, I use the cruise a lot and unfortunately whilst it wants to drive you nice an safe, if a gap is left big enough for a car to get in, down south a least some onw will nip into it at which point the cars brakes to maintain safe distance again, this time more aggressively, and of course the car that nips in always without question slows down to slower than you were going in the first place.....crazy

Ah yes, certainly forgot to mention it earlier - this is my curse...!

I do own and use satnav with dash cam - Garmin's nuvicam - and one of its features is Forward Collision Warning, which beeps when you're too close to the car in front of you. Guess what triggers it in my case...!
