XC40 Satnav Update
Hi,
I would like to update the Satnav in my XC40 (Sensus Navigation, 2016) and have downloaded the files for Europe to a blank USB memory stick. But when I insert the USB with the infotainment system switched on, nothing happens. I've checked the download using the Volvo website and it's ok. I did this once before without any issues. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? |

Hello,
Yes, I have two USB sockets one (USB-A) below the Infotainment system and another (USB-C) at the back between the two seats. Unfortunately, when a USB memory stick with the downloaded maps is inserted into either of them, nothing happens. Is there another way to kick start the update? |

The USB stick must be empty with nothing on it , try a different USB stick ( 64 gb) Choose the whole of europe not a partial smaller map when downloading from the web site

You have to check that the downloaded file is exactly the same size as that stated on Volvo’s website otherwise something is missing and it will not work.
Format the stick to FAT32 to delete any old files.

Normally the problem is the stick has old data still on it and a one pass low level format will zero it out for you, if you don't do this even though the old files appear to be gone they aren't, they're still resident on the stick but not visible and the area they occupy is shown to Windows to be write-able again. Simplest way is to do a full not quick format of the stick which does take a while or use a program like Active Killdisk which will do a one pass for you for free in about 15-30 minutes up to a 64GB stick. |

Just for future reference as I realise this has probably been resolved now....
I'd read about the 64gb max stick size stipulation by Volvo but wondered whether that was purely because the performance of sticks of a few years ago were inferior to today's. So I tried my new Samsung Bar plus 128GB 3.1 stick yesterday and it worked flawlessly. Downloaded NW Europe map as per Volvo instructions, inserted stick in USB without white frame (but likely that's irrelevant) and it took about 30-40 mins I guess. Prompted me to turn engine off to finalise installation. Ps no progress indicator other than little circle top right of Sensus screen and message that it was installing update on notification screen.
