Default Coolant 940 Turbo.

I have a 1996 940 LPT and am going to change the 6 year old aftermarket waterpump as getting a bit noisy.

Have an SKF pump and gasket that came with it, should I buy a genuine Volvo one as better?

I bought antifreeze on Ebay around 4 years ago and would like to buy new, but cant remember what I bought. Coolant is a greeny blue.

What would you recommend?

Many thanks. James.

Stick with the SKF pump James ! I have used Comma Super Coldmaster in both my Redblocks.

That's the coolant I bought last time but didn't keep the container and forgot what it was called.

SKF pump definitely! Should I not use the SKF gasket but buy a genuine Volvo one or is the SKF gasket up to the job?

Many thanks. James.

I've heard the top gasket ( rubber one ) is better to be gen Volvo. Check with Chris at FRF to see if the sell a gasket set separately

The Volvo gaskets seem to last longer than non-OEM. The top, rubber gasket is especially vulnerable to oil contamination if the front cam seal is leaking. If that is the case then save yourself some hassle and fix that first, or at least at the same time.

I use either Comma Xstream G48 coolant or genuine Volvo which is equivalent to Comma/Glysantin G64. Volvo used to recommend G48 and now recommends G64. I have not encountered any advantage of one over the other for redblock engines. My experience spans four Volvos over twenty-five years.

I've switched to G48 this year, as a few forum members recommended it.

My baby drinks distilled rather than de-ionised water now too, although either is better than that tap rubbish!

PFS Parts have the 4Ltr Green/Blue Volvo coolant for around £24.

Same bottle from Volvo is around £30 iirc.

I tend to go with the Motul Auto Cool Expoert Ready to Use stuff. I can't comment on the water pump, as my experience with Volvo packaged parts might be self-inflicted...
