Default Non airbag steering boss on an airbag car. Can it be done ??

I bought a new steering wheel and boss for my motor about 18 months ago now coming to fit Iv realised it’s not one for a air bag and I’m wondering can I still chuck it on with the horn as it’s not just two wires it has that airbag ring.
Cheers guys

You can buy the SRS light will come on and the only way to turn it off is with the proper Volvo diagnostic tool, good luck finding someone who has it though. My mate has done it to his 940 and has just pulled the SRS bulb as his squib broke so he replaced it and the light didn't go out so he thought sod it and fitted a decent aftermarket steering wheel.

Why might you be changing it ? Are you possibly compromising your safety ?

The original steering wheel and I’m not a fan of standard wheels anyway

I would be more concerned about the Insurance implications should the worse ever happen

Sadly I can't help with the airbag issue on the 940 - but it's possible on my 406 ( which is a similar generation ) by fitting a resistor, about 2ohms if I remember correctly, between the wires.

This gives enough resistance for the ECU to think there is an airbag still fitted.

Also, I agree with the others and suggest that this is something to do at your own risk.

Thanks for the reply guys my main thought is how to fit it with it having the squib ring and the horn wires.

I "debagged" my 827 Coupe many moons ago but the SRS lights never worked in that anywayso fitting the standard wheel was simply a case of swapping the wheel for a coloured leather wheel and the same colour horn pad - airbag steering wheels and horn pads were all black on the 800 Rover, Range Rovers got coloured (and even half-wood wheels but even secondhand they were £OUCH!!! ) wheels for airbags with coloured horn pads but the cost was stupid.

I believe if you find an engineering shop you can have a spacer made to accommodate the non airbag wheel and let you use the basic horn wiring on your 940 though.
