New throttle for 1999 v70 2.4 na engine
Hi all, my v70 2.4 170 hp has the usual dodgy etm. It's been confirmed faulty by an ecu repair specialist however it's a board issue rather than the usual position sensor. They've said they can't repair it.
Has anyone recently bought one new from volvo? If so what was the approximate price and was it plug and play or did it need coding? |

I think Dippydog mentioned he has the SACER type TPS fitted to his V70 so maybe he can advise.

It's not the position sensor that's the problem, it's a fault on the board relating to the throttle motor. It had actually already had a sacer tps fitted prior to me buying the car.

To answer my own question for anyone else in the same position a new throttle can still be bought from volvo and including coding you're looking at around £500 at the date this is posted.
New one fitted today and car is lovely to drive again. |

mine is a '99 with an ETM, and I was wondering how fatal it would be if it failed.
If it does fail, is it usually a new board that is needed? Or could it be something else, I note reference to the throttle position sensor, is this a separate part to the board? And is your £500 for a new board from a Volvo dealer?

There are several faulty related to the throttle. Most common is the position sensor that can be replaced yourself for around £70. BE CAREFUL READING FORUMS HOWEVER!! This is not the only fault that occurs on these. You need to look at and understand the fault codes, if the fault codes are not related to the position sensor you will almost certainly have fault similar to mine that effectively renders the throttle unit scrap. If that's the case you need new throttle as I did which as far as I could tell is a volvo only part (you can try second hand but the part number needs to match and it needs to have come from the same type of engine). I used volvo specialist rather than dealer as they are nearer but they have access to volvo diagnostic kit and used genuine parts. A 'normal' garage won't be at to do this as they need software flashing on to them. |
