Default Headlight protectors

Evening all,

Found a set of used headlight protectors from my dads old 240 in the shed yesterday and just wondered if they’re worth anything?

If they are in good clean condition, yes!

Last lot on eBay £100+!👍

True.
You need protectors on your protectors nowadays, such is their rarity.

Let us know if you wanna sell 'em eh

They can fetch silly money (in my opinion). I got a set for one of my old VW Polo's and they cost me a tenner. I saw people trying to sell them for £50 upwards - the value is what you perceive them to be.

I had a pair once, they came with the car I think. They weren't a very good fit, and one broke after being hit by a thrown up stone.

Yeah, they're not the most robust bits of plastic.

I only ever use them for shows lol - take them off when I'm actually driving.

... and so the point of them is?

I'm just thinking aloud (and I'm a bit too cynical about everything)

Originally, in period Alan, to, quite literally, protect the headlamps. As an after-market accessory, they were much less than the cost of replacing a vulnerable headlamp should one become broken in use. They resisted stone chips quite well (much better than glass) although they did also marginally reduce light output.

There was a set on my GLT when I bought it, which I in turn left on the car when I sold it. I must confess that I never expected them to become the prized accessory that they would appear to have now become, although I suppose there are not now that many left!

Regards, John.

Thank you John,

My comment was supposed to be an ironic response to something Thorne said:
'I only ever use them for shows lol - take them off when I'm actually driving.'

... and so a rhetorical rather than candid question

I've already sussed your cynicism Alan ... I quite simply enjoy a car with period OEM accessories; they may be useless in today's world (or, in this case, more valuable to be left off in normal conditions).

Much like the oddity of collecting stamps, or having all of your chrome ware polished to an inch of its life. - A car with oddments that the dealership offered just ticks a box for me.
