Ah my bad! I forgot that key element. Although, putting some Ocean MK18's on could add a few thousand pounds worth of 'street cred'.

No, it was Alan who called them(Estates) vans with windows.
They are not to his taste as a "hobby car".
That may have led to some confusion.

Two and a half hours to go.

Any guesses what it’ll make? 😈

I think most of our Volvos are 'just' working.
I remember there was a 145 Express that had metal panels in place of windows. I believe a high-top roof and a 3-door bodyshell were options but also a 5 door with glass bodyshell but high-top roof was another option.

I think there was also a 245 Express with similar options, neither 145 or 245 Express models were official UK models though.

Someone who knows those particular models better than i do can tell you more i'm sure. There's a rust-free 145 Express with the windows option on ebay for £2500, been on a long time! For the price you get a left hand drive 145 Express and the rust comes free!

Joking aside, it needs restoration that would be started with a dustbin full of brave pills!

It will do one of two things Andrew, either finish as it is now at £2100 or there will be a mad flurry in the last 20-30 minutes.

My money is on staying as is though.

I can't help thinking it might be doing better if they'd bothered to take the bric-a-brac off it, give it a wash, and photograph it in the sun.

They've got to clear the junk before the buyer can get to it anyway!

That 145 Express has been for sale for as long as anyone can remember. To start with the price came down a bit, but it seems to have plateaued at £2,500. I think it was Mitch that knew the chap selling and thought it owed quite a lot.

In fairness, the rubbish is gone in the later photos, but it's a still a strange presentation overall. It evidently needs some cosmetic work, but if it's really rot free as claimed it looks like it'll make a decent car for somebody once tidied up.

Andrew commented previously that the seat backs seem to be cords, but the seller has written in one of the public questions at the bottom of the ad that they're covers so the leather backs are there.

It's a long way from perfect on the cosmetic front, and there are a few niggling doubts (no service history, and failed MOT on number plate, bulb, and emissions - the seller could surely have considered resolving the first two, at least).

But it is a claimed rot-free manual GLT saloon with tan leather and auxiliary gauges; if I had the space available I might have given some serious thinking time to it. My upper limit for one day getting a 240 (once I have a garage) will basically follow the "Seriously?" price guide - i.e. £4,500 for a car that's ready to use and presents nicely. If this one sells for the current bid of £2,100, there's still £2,400 left over to spend on getting it an MOT and dealing with the most pressing cosmetic issues.

Default Selling stuff…

Sometimes we see vehicles advertised for months or even years… obviously wrongly priced, so here is a different anecdote.

Dan and I weren’t using our Porsche Boxster much since he started learning to drive (I couldn’t insure it for him for another decade!), so I thought I might offer it for sale with the spring coming. I tried the people that advertise they buy anything - they offered me 17 grand, which sounded a bit light to me. As a result I placed a classified ad on eBay this morn at a shade under 20 grand, took some nice photos and wrote a candid rubric. That was this morn; the motor car was sold to a Porsche specialist an hour ago, money in the bank and will be collected tomorrow. That £20 ad has netted me an additional £2,500, so I’m quite pleased with myself.

I think the moral of this story is to be honest and candid, good motor cars then sell themselves.
