Default Center console alternatives

Been thinking a bit about a center console for my Amazon estate and while the OEM Amazon and 140 accessory units pop up from time to time similar to these -

Or modern reproductions like these -
https://www.ebay.com/itm/114932682441

or these

I wonder if there isn't a more modern alternative that could be adapted with only modest pain/effort. Like something from the MX-5/Miata or similar - https://www.redlineautoparts.com/maz...90-1997-na042/

Curious if anyone else here has dabbled in this area. Or if anyone has one of the OEM units sitting on the shelf and would be able to grab a few dimensions.

Cheers,
Zach

ETA: probably simplest to purchase one of the vp units and be done with it, all things considered, but more fun to wonder out lout.

I've been debating doing something similar. I was thinking about fabricating my own. I have done something similar for one of my other vehicles and it worked pretty well.

Keep us posted on what route you go.

I was going to say a good sheet worker or carpenter could knock something up that will be a lot better than the molded stuff that's available, can't imagine it will be cheap though.

OK, it may not be the prettiest thing but I made a centre console storage box for my 144 column change automatic from some MDF I had lying about then painted it black.

Since modified by adding a key lock, it holds everything needed such as sat nav, phone charger, sunglasses etc. without having to reach across to the glove box!

The MX5 one looks quite easy to adapt, but I don't think it would be hard to make your own. Attached is a pic of the centre console I made for my Bristol, it's just 3 pieces of aluminium which are folded and then held together by rivnuts and stainless fixings. probably £10 worth of metal. The advantage of doing it yourself is that you can have it looking however you want, the disadvantage is that you have to make it. But if you like playing around in the garage then I'd recommend it.

That is very impressive. Great solution for where to house auxillary gauges too.

They're Alfa Romeo, don't know what model though.

The seats look like they’re sourced from an Alfa 164 -
