Thanks Clan & Simmy, Think I will just check there is power to the 2 pins while the module is disconnected. If that is OK then probably the cheapest option is to try crash data. I guess I have nothing to lose sending away other than a small amount of money as it looking likely I will need a new module if crash data can't fix it.

check out there facebook site for a more in depth look at how they operate and see lots of volvo units stacked high on there workbench.

I have now checked the power to both pins 42 and 43 and they both have +12v

Spoken to crash data, once I described the fault they said all they could do is transfer the data from my unit to a donor unit if I supplied a donor unit with the same part number. Not sure I want to go down that route as you have no idea what has happened to the donor unit.

that's going to be expensive make sure to check all plugs under the seats for any loose or broken wires or loose plugs . good luck and keep us posted with any outcome .

I have now taken it to a local independent Volvo specialist and their conclusion was the SRS module which needs to be replaced. Looking at about £900 so yes expensive.

All fixed now and yes it was expensive.

Part £545.00
Software £37.80
Diagnostic £75.00
Labour £89.42
VAT £149.44

Total £896.66

This was carried out at an independent Volvo specialist.

thanks for posting your outcome lots dont . glad you got your car fixed did they give any indication on why the component failed like this? its handy to know so others can avoid similar problems

No they didn't say why it failed although not sure what they could say unless you start fault finding on the module itself. The module had power at the connector as I tested for that, but Vida could not see it at all. They did say they have done a few recently including one last month.
