Default XC70 wiring in tailgate seal?

Hi all,

The passenger side seal on my tailgate (between the lights and the tailgate) is missing and there is a random broken wire where it should be.

When I look up the part, the seal plugs into the wiring harness.

Does anyone know the function of this?

It looks like this :-

I know modern cars are ridiculously over-complicated, but electric seals

You have one of the versions of the powered tailgate where there's a sensor built into the seal, to figure out if something is obstructing the movement of the tailgate. Like a hand.
