Rear light problem.
Rear light problem.
2018 V90 CC. When I started my car yesterday, it flagged up a message: “rear marker light malfunction”, a quick check revealed that the n/s/r light was not lit. When I got home, it was out when I opened the tailgate, but when I went out later and unlocked the car and opened the tailgate, it came on. I tried the side lights, and it came on, but when I started the car, the message reappeared and the light was not working again. This suggests to me that it is a can-bus error, rather than the light itself; does anybody have any suggestions? Is there a quick re-set, or is it an expensive 130 mile round trip to the dealer? I am willing and prepared to tackle any mechanical issues, but modern electrics are akin to the dark arts, as far as I’m concerned. Sod’s Law, of course, in that it is due an MOT in 10 days time!

Perhaps a low battery. Tends to throw things like this. Fairly sure mine needs a new batter soon as occasionally get a headlamp malfunction warning never around for long.

It's most likely you have a dying bulb that you've since knocked the filament back into place, sometimes it goes on sometimes it doesn't this is assuming the car has bulbs still and not LED.
If it has LED which I think it does *never got that far with mine* you could be looking at a new light as I believe they are sealed (corrections welcome) for life, I would unclip the loom, check for moisture and dirt then reconnect and pray. Don't rule out what Quaff said either. |

The message appeared after a 40 mile journey, so unlikely to be a low battery, but it’s something else I will check.

Have a look for an auto electrician or indeed a hobbyist one who may be able to open it up and fit a new set of diodes for you. If this cheers you up a bit thank God it's not a front one, £2000 for the ones that haven't got cornering and £2500 if they have, almost an excuse to ram a parked car. |

Hi,
I was wondering how you got on with this. I had an intermittent fault (usually when I had driven over 100 miles) on the rear passenger side. It is now permanent for the last couple of days. Did you have to replace? Many thanks. Martin |
