XC60 2009 D5.
We've had -6C here for a week now, car kept outside. Just warming the car up to go out, strange continuous whining noise (like an electric motor making a noise) started from beneath and just forward of the offside wheel arch. Engine then proceeded to slowly die, feels like starvation of fuel to the engine. Leaving it a few minutes, the car would start again but do it again after a minute or so. We've already had the fuel pump changed, a year or so ago, but that could be faulty again (it's under the back seat so the right place for the noise). The other thing I thought was water that has been knocked out in the fuel filter has frozen. Can't test that theory until there's a thaw (due in 5 days or so). No OBD codes (engine off but ignition on). Questions, please: 1. Where is the fuel filter on the XC60? On my '06 XC70 it's just below and forward of the r/o/s wheel, but I can't spot anything obvious on the XC60. 2. Anyone else had a similar problem? / Ideas? TIA |

The black plastic fuel filter housing is above the rear axle
Look on youtube there is a good video, I did to replace the filter👍🏻 There is a drain to check if it is frozen inside! 18mm socket to drain and above that a 32mm to remove the filter Last edited by Adrian B; Dec 13th, 2022 at 16:10. |

It's in the same(ish) place - rear o/s wheel area. Looks like it won't clear the driveshaft but it does if you take your time.
