Thumbs up 1998 2.4 S70 Brake Discs [Rotor] info please

Hi,

I have a barn find 1998 S70 2.4 Petrol Auto with 16,800 on the clock. Bronze colour. A beautiful motor drives like a dream.

As it’s been stood for many a year I’m going to give the brakes a coat of looking at.

It is many years since I looked at brake discs and there seems to be conflicting information around.

I have always put the same size diameter discs on the front and rear of my S70’s to no detriment. In the case of this new car I believe they are 280mm for the 15” wheels. The braking system being Teves.

There is info around saying larger discs should be on the front, if that’s the case I do not know if 300mm discs would fit and function effectively?

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks.

Hi,

280s are correct for your car and wheel size front and rear. There is an option to convert the fronts to bigger 302 brakes but your wheels aren't big enough.

There's a dealer on Ebay called 'Volvopartstrade' who does really good deals on genuine Volvo discs and brakes although others may match or beat him (FRF for example are worth a call).

BR,

Rich.

If you ever want to go for the 302mm discs, note that you need to swap the caliper brackets.
These brakes will fit under some 16" wheels (not the most common ones like Columbas...) and all 17"

Agreed ^^^^^^

Also needs the longer hoses for 17'' wheels.
