5N Socket Found by Spare Wheel
Anyone had this before.?
I've been wondering why there is a 5N Skt by the spare wheel. does it come as standard?. I don't know the history of the car, other than I've owned it for 3yrs now and there was a bill that involved some caravan electrical work but it didn't come with a tow bar. ------------------------------------------------- 2004 V70 D5 163bhp 167k |

well that grey connector is the tow hitch connector and judging by the sparky tape it looks like someone's patched into it to fit the round plug internally for some reason
maybe they were using something in the boot powered by the round connector which they preferred to keep internal or maybe they regularly had bikes on the back, and they used a light board for that reason but didnt want the tow ball and plug on the outside? just guesses |

Thanks for that Stuart. Yes it's hard to figure out why someone would place the socket in the boot. Even for a cycle board you'd still have to find a way of running the lead to the outside.
Handy to know about the hitch connector. At some point I'll have to install a towbar for our caravan that's not moved off the driveway for the last 15 yrs. |

no worries yeah you can get a kit from volvo that connects directly to it, or obviously with a volt meter and a process of elimination you can just work out what each core is (or find that pdf of the instructions I remember seeing at one point which listed them all) and you just do the wiring yourself
I spliced into mine for reversing camera power (reverse light on that is unmonitored and it won't chuck a fault up) and to switch on my subwoofer amp (from the sidelights which is switched on ignition) could also be useful for a rear facing 'dash'cam seeing as the only other option is the boot ciggy lighter and that is on permanently (and comes up with a message on the dash when connected) Last edited by stuart bowes; Oct 26th, 2022 at 12:22. |
