Default V70 D5 2006 - hesitant when pulling away or after roundabout

Hi, have a great V70 D5 2006 220k miles but goes like a dream.... however

It has developed a weird fault, when I pull away or come off a roundabout the car has no 'go' it is as if the turbo wont spin up and pull the car away properly. Its a bit dangerous to be honest.

But if I blip the throttle or wait a moment the power comes back on stream and all is well.

I have put a vacuum tester on the two vacuum switches in the engine bay, one near the fuse box and one clipped on near the diesel rail. They both appear to be working properly.

Have hooked up VIDA and seems there are no fault codes to be found.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what is causing the fault?

With thanks Rich.

I had similar when one of the abs rings cracked. The traction control was kicking in off roundabouts and pulling out of corners as the sensors thought one of the wheels was spinning. The abs rings can be replaced on the front.

They could just be corroded if not split.

Good point re ABS I've notices that the fault shows up pulling round a larg'ish round about hear home. The ABS warning light comes on... then the next day on a straight run to work it often clears with No Messages.

I'll take the front wheels off....and have a look.

Many thanks Rich.

Put an new ABS ring on the right (offside) front hub.
The original was split, I guess due to the pressure on corrosion on the inside.
Also put what I thought was a new sensor into the hub.

All manor of things then went horribly wrong, got total brake failure warnings come up and the speed/rev needles dropped to zero positions.

Brakes still worked ok but obviously no ABS functions etc.

So, I took out the apparently new abs sensor and put the old one back. Now it just as it was with the old fault appearing going round a roundabout ie clockwise with left lean. I get the old ABS fault back .... which clears on level ground with a restart.

I'm going to fit a new ABS ring to the left (nearside).

Then perhaps nip to a breakers and see of there are any OEM sensors on a donor car available. New ones cost £80+ ....

But perhaps I need new OEM parts to cure the fault?? Who knows...

If you have VIDA you can monitor the wheel speeds as you go along (with assistance obviously!) Any differential will cause all sorts of issues.

If you don't have VIDA, try setting cruise on a clear road, if it hunts slightly that points to wheel sensor mismatch.

After new ABS ring on both sides ... the problem is now sorted!

Oddly one side the ring had cracked the near side looked OK. However I replaced it all the same. Both ABS sensors are the original ones.

Perhaps over time they rust and the sensor cant rear the signal be generated accurately?

Anyway its also solved the hesitation on the roundabout and no warning lights come up.

Hope that helps someone.

Rich.
