Looking at the photos, an abused car would not be in this condition. I am presuming the photos are recent! If i was looking for something like this i would definitely go for a look. These cars are now very old, so even from the most respected of sellers wont be able to guarantee it wont have faults lurking. My only issue is that between 2013 and 2016 it did 63000 miles. That is a lot in anyone's book. The seats aren't leather, they are the plastic type but the drivers seat is holding up well. Go and have a look. often foreign sellers do seem a bit to the point, as their English is marginal.

It looks right to me to at least go and have a look! I think there is still some room for negotiation, as it has now been reduced quite drastically!

I also own a car (second owner) '97 V70 with just over 65'000 miles:~
The first owner looked after the car well in many respects but the mileage was VERY little between MOTs~ I'm not much better now!

I would certainly go and take a look at it rather than second guess the negatives -- you never know!
Bob.

That looks like a lovely car tbh.

I've bought many many cars on eBay, all without viewing them and despite initial reservations, I've only had one bad one - which ironically was an 850 It had the (then common) issue of sticking tappets, which resulted in no compression (valves stuck open) and made starting it an absolute swine - I knew exactly how the AA man liked his tea...! That was a 2.0 10v with no service history.

This 850 looks like its been cared for however. I wouldn't worry too much about the low mileage between MoTs - my recently acquired 940 only did around 200 miles a year for over a decade as it was part of a private collection. Cosmetically its fabulous, but it didn't have much maintenance work done, which is why I'm still doing the Stage 0 jobs. I have no problem with that, but if I were you I'd assume that you'll need to do a bit of mechanical work and set aside some funds to cover that. Being a MkI, you *may* have problems getting some parts? I'm thinking that the front hubs were different for example, although you may be able to update it and fit later struts etc. I'm sure they'll be enough differences to drive you mad

I'd definitely go and look at it if you're genuinely interested. It sounds like the seller is a trader (trying to pass himself off as a private seller perhaps?) but it may just be that he is a private seller and has too many cars. A few years ago I was in that position and wifey told me to choose between the 3 LandRovers and get rid of one

I wouldn't worry too much about the abrupt tone - if the seller is a foreigner then they may not have acquired the British preamble chat nicety - its quite common for some nationalities to get straight to the point, whereas others... you could spend a few hours drinking tea before even getting to the subject, let alone discussing a price The bottom line is that you don't need to like the seller. He could be an utter t**t but be selling a peach of a car.

Go and have a look, but be prepared to walk away if its not right. Good luck!

Ok. I sent the seller a series of normal questions, he/she refused to answer any of them, tonight I had a message to say the car had now been sold and if I had spent less time asking such questions it could have been mine. I will chip this one up to experience and remember that some people just can’t help being arseholes. As I said before there is plenty more out there and I will find one 😁

@ lightyears

Well done, Rael's 850 is a nice looking car with rare sided Columba wheels.
