Have you checked with your dealer, there are several versions of the AQS used in the XC90, ranging from sub £30 to almost £100 depending on the age/chassis number of your car ... worth a check you may be surprised either way

I had assumed they were all £££££ for what they are... Not being totally anal, but I dont like any vehicle to be sitting with an unaddressed code....I may live to regret that statement however! I did come across some content suggesting that they can be opened up and cleaned/restored - not specific to volvo but AQS in general... but I am not really convinced from what I have read - I think, like many sensors, they have a shelf life, and when its their time, its their time. The only "issue" we have with our heating is that it takes an age to warm up in winter if left idling - but will heat up within an mile or so of driving the car..... I have changed the thermostat and of course flushed and replaced coolant to no effect. D
