Lightbulb ZF4HP22 tail shaft bearing

Hi, the tail shaft on my 760 has play but doesn’t leak any oil.

I’m just wondering has anybody changed this before on here.

Any information would be great.

Thanks

Crawl undernath Jim, grab the flanges where the propshaft meets the gearbox and try moving them up/down and left/right. Any play will be obvious.

Done it on the AW71, very similar on the ZF as far as i can tell. Disconnect the prop from the gearbox, undo the flange bolt in the end of the gearbox output flange, pull flange out then remove the half dozen or so bolts securing the extension housing to the gearbox and pull the extension housing off. You may have to also remove the rear gearbox mounting crossmember and support the box itself with a block of wood to spread the load.

Once the extension housing is out, remove the shaft seal followed by drifitng the bush out. Note that these bushes have a habit of turning in the housing so check the alignment of the oil holes in the housing and new bush before fitting. Fit the new seal then "Haynes it".

Not a complete guide but it was about 6 years ago when i did it on mine and i've been asleep since!
