Thanks. That's interesting as I have only heard of two of those brands (SKF and FAG). I've purchased SKF items before and they seem good. |

Assuming these ID numbers are different to part numbers (?), are there any potential 'variations' that may result in a given bearing not fitting properly? I had a look on one of the links you have kindly provided: just one option was available and it was 150+VAT! Clearly not an inexpensive job to replace x4 bearings, particularly once labour has been accounted for |

When I had mine done the chap reckoned he'd had to try three different options to get the one that fitted, there is a variation in the way the driveshaft is fitted and the number of splines on the shaft as I recall (and sometimes even having the Volvo chassis number won't get you to the right one).

Bearings are normally stamped with the appropriate number:~
This should identify the complete specification that can then be applied to any make or manufacturer- It isn't a part number as such i.e. one that would be used by a car parts supplier. Sometimes the number can still be awkward to track down but another alternative is to do it by taking the measurements (From memory simply bearings have a guide on their site) I'm fortunate to live quite close to this company and have tracked down older bearings with the help of the tech/dept. If you have a local supplier its worth calling in if you are struggling. The stamped on numbers should enable price comparisons to be made hopefully avoiding over priced bought in parts. The specification will also be known when dealing with a bearing supplier direct: Hope it works for you. Regards Bob. |

Afternoon
I did the back bearings on mine, they come with the plastic guide for mounting. Make sure you have the big socket and a long breaker bar and the holding nut just pops off. Took me an afternoon taking my time. The hardest bit is setting the hand brake adjuster through that small access hole correctly.

apologies for hijacking the thread but I would just like confirmation that my front wearing bearing is gone.
It's hard to describe but when going turning into a corner there is a rhythmic howl - a "woo woo" sound that is related to road speed. It may be the CV joint but from what I have read, those make a clicking sound. thanks. |

a brief update.
replacing the front righthand wheel bearing cured the noise. it also fixed the creaking noise that seemed to come from the front left corner, most notriceable when changing direction or pulling away - garage diagnosed a worn top suspension mount! Had to use a blow torch to undo the 4 bolts holdiong the bearing in place - these are torqued up 20/40 nm then 60 degress so f*****ing tight! |
