Default Swirl flaps

Hi, all can anyone tell me if the engine on my 2010 , 200 bhp xc90 needs to have the swirl flaps working?
I had a look today after cleaning up the engine bay to find the rod from the stepper was not connected at the engine end!
The car performs very well, starts first time every time and pulls like a train.
Hence my question.
(I presume they are designed to do something!)
Your knowledge gratefully received.
TIA, Dave

Hi Dave

Your swirl flaps are probably in the open position, so full power performance isn’t affected. When the same happened to my D5 I found the part/low throttle running much improved after repair.

The swirl flaps cause turbulence at low rpm to better mix the fuel and air.

Thumbs up

I only realised after seeing the connecting rod loose, and after seeing other posts about it and saying how to put it back on.
Mind you it looks quite awkward for me to do as I only have 1 arm......
Will nip it down to the garage and let them do it.
Cheers, Dave
