V50 handling and other Volvo models
Was quite surprised how well the V50 handles, it's a decent drive. Had always regarded Volvo as a brand for safety and comfort over anything else. How does the V60 and V70 handle in comparison? I'm guessing the XC70 will not like going around a bend as much for obvious reasons. Do like those XC70s to be honest, although you don't seem to see that many on the road.

Depends on the model but generally, pretty much the same. There’s more body roll on the XC and CC models but that offset by the AWD. What are you planning to get next?

I find the V70 P3 handles very nicely. It's not a super agile sports missile, all nervous and edgy. However, on real roads with dreadful potholes and diesel smeared across the tarmac (a peculiarly Britishn phenomenon) I find the steering and stability are exactly where they need to be while maintaining a decent ride quality.

We have a 2014 V70 D4 SE Lux Geartronic and a 2015 V60 D3 R Design Lux Geartronic. I've also driven a 2014 V60 D4 SE Lux Geartronic.
The V70 handles well but is more of a long-distance tourer than a rally car. If pushed around bends it rolls a bit but the level of grip is very high. So if I really need to hurry then I can. It's Mondeo brother (which is what my V70 replaced) has a similarly good ride but tighter handling. Having said that, however, from the driving seat the V70 feels as though it has more road presence. Also, the V70 has better seats with a higher comfort level. I love both cars for different reasons. The V60 R Design is a slightly firmer, flat-riding, grippy fun car that you can thrown around bends and roundabouts. In D3 Geartronic form it's also a fast car and is far more zippy in many normal driving situations than my V70 D4. Pulling away is a lot of fun. Press and go. Strangely enough, it's also more zippy in many normal driving situations than the V60 D4 Geartronic. At higher speeds, however, the D4 does pull ahead quite nicely. In terms of ride and handling, the V60 SE Lux sits midway between the V60 R Design Lux and the V70 SE Lux, making it a good all-rounder. Last edited by Sotosound; Mar 7th, 2022 at 11:33. |

Bit early for that, as just got the V50. It was between the V50 & V70, but opted for the V50 when considering current needs on balance. But I'd imagine the V70 or V60 would be high on the list if I needed to change. Two different vehicles, I'd probably opt for the V70 but the wife would prefer V60 (so I'd go V60 if the extra space wasn't high on list) 😁

sport/comfort/normal and which is on whatever your thinking of yeps a "XC/CC" is going to have more body roll, its a function of higher suspension, which Can be offset by fitting stiffer less compliant suspension, so you Could end up with less body roll than a V50 with its "sports" suspension but thats comparing factory apples with aftermarket zucchini's really (also depends on if the misses is in the car or not as the whine from the passenger seat Does impact things a bit when trying to find the suspensions limits,,,,)
