Wasn't it great when Volvo made the earlier estates. I've got great memories of my 740GLE, a marvelous car with acres of space, and if I remember correctly, rear wheel drive!

Yep the 960 last of the RWD cars I still marvel at the handling on such a big car and that sweet sweet turning circle.

TBF, other than Chrysler's Alpine, all FWD cars suffer from a poor turning circle as the driveshaft angle restricts the amount of turn the wheels can generate. The Alpine had a "proper" front suspension with double wishbones and not the ubiquitous half-a-suspension system that is the Macpherson Strut, which might have had some bearing on the matter.

By sheer coincidence, it has double wishbone and Chapman strut front suspension so you may well be right. That said when i was a young puppy, my dad had several company cars, originally the Mk1 Cavalier then he had a few Mk4/5 Cortinas followed by a brief spell with a Talbot Alpine (the renamed Chrysler Alpine after the PSA buy-out of Chrysler Europe) and was forever complaining about the oil tanker turning circle on it.
