Fresh MOT:~
Just obtained a new MOT on my '97 V70:~
The only comment from the inspector is "perfect"- but tyres are old now but the tread is fine (new full set before summer) Michelin at present and the things do last- done all of 700 miles last year and still 66'000 in total. Regards Bob. |

Always a nice feeling when the tester hands you a pass certificate
Michelin tyres are the worst for cracking rubber. My wife's car had to have all the Michelin tyres changed because of this

I'm not complaining with regard to Michelin:~
18 years seems ok to me on one tyre date check so assuming the others are all the same date. The car had one previous owner and I used to smile at the mileage history as it seemed he would take the car for the MOT and then back into the garage- I seem to be that man now but the 240 has accounted for maybe another 500 miles or so! I came across mention of Michelin tyres being susceptible to cracking on these forums last year. Had never heard of it before and being either a Michelin or Pirelli man never experienced it.
Took the V40 into my trusted tyre chap last autumn and asked for a pair of Michelin tyres. Apparently the correct size was not available due to production issues - I then asked about Pirelli - yes available and next day delivery. Tyre chappie then said, ''' much better tyre than Michelin as they suffer from cracking. Michelin used to be good tyres but not anymore''.

Michelin are good tyres if you do a high annual mileage, they will last longer than most tyres. But for a car that does a low mileage they will crack long before they wear out

Always nice to walk away with a pass on the older cars. I get a buzz from it knowing that I maintain them so must be doing something right, the 240 has only had minor advisories in my ownership, as for the newcomer '98 V70R, we'll see in October!

Thanks for the comments:~ I also have a 240 and with both these cars I have a high level of confidence that they will pass, no boast its's that the cars are well maintained.
Fortunately we have a very good garage/MOT ctr. who knows the cars and remembers them when new- he is very fair, doesn't fail cars for daft reasons as long as he sees them being looked after - a two man garage-always busy with no rip-off prices. Regards Bob. |
